How we publish

Editorial Standards

We install heating and cooling for a living, so the advice on this site has to hold up on a real job, not just on a page. This is how our guides and calculators are written, where every number comes from, how often we check it, and what we will never publish.

Who writes this site

Every guide and tool on this site is published under a named person, not a faceless brand byline.

A named author

Our heating and cooling articles are published by Akila, who quotes, oversees and troubleshoots installs across Melbourne. The author profile sets out that background in full.

Written from real jobs

The advice reflects what we actually see in Melbourne homes: the faults that recur, the sizes that suit our climate, and the rebate paperwork we lodge. Not a rewrite of someone else's article.

Software assisted, human approved

We use research and drafting software to prepare content, exactly as we use software to size a system. Nothing is published until a person from our team has read it and agreed it is right.

Where our numbers come from

Our calculators and cost guides are built on published, checkable sources. Each tool also lists its own assumptions on the page, so you can see the working rather than take the answer on faith.

Electricity ratesVictorian Default Offer

Our default electricity rate is drawn from the Victorian Default Offer set by the Essential Services Commission, which is reset each year. Melbourne rates vary by distribution zone, so our tools let you type in the rate from your own bill.

Gas ratesTypical Melbourne market offers

Our default gas rate reflects typical Melbourne retail offers rather than one retailer's plan. As with electricity, you can override it with the rate printed on your bill.

Rebate figuresVictorian Energy Upgrades program

Rebate estimates follow the Victorian Energy Upgrades program rules and the discount ranges we publish in our own VEU rebate guide. The final amount is always confirmed by the accredited provider for your specific home, system and postcode. Our tools never present an estimate as an approval.

System capacity and efficiencyManufacturer specifications

Capacity, efficiency and performance figures come from manufacturer specifications for the systems we install, combined with common Australian sizing guidance for Melbourne's climate zone.

Installed pricesWhat we quote in Melbourne

Indicative install prices reflect the ranges we quote for Melbourne homes. They are guides, not quotes. Real prices move with roof access, duct runs, electrical work and site conditions, which is why every tool ends with an offer of a free on site assessment rather than a checkout.

How often we check it

Energy prices and rebate rules change. Content that was accurate in January can quietly mislead by July, so we work to a fixed review cycle rather than waiting for someone to notice.

Energy rates: every January and July

We re-check the electricity and gas rates behind our running cost tools twice a year and update the review date printed on each tool.

Rebate figures: whenever the program changes

Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts move with the program. We review our rebate figures each quarter, and sooner if the rules change mid year.

Every tool shows its own date

Each calculator states when its method and figures were last reviewed, on the page. If a date is old, treat the number as indicative and call us for a current figure.

What we will not publish

Trust is easier to lose than to build. These are the lines we hold, even where crossing them would convert better.

What we always do

  • Show every calculator result for free, with no email or phone number required first.
  • Publish the assumptions behind every estimate on the same page as the estimate.
  • Say plainly when a repair may still be the better option than a replacement.
  • Show our real Google review count and rating, whatever it happens to be.
  • Tell you when something needs a licensed installer to confirm on site.

What we never do

  • Invent reviews, ratings or testimonials, or inflate our review count.
  • Claim accreditations or licences we do not hold.
  • Publish a rebate estimate as though it were an approval.
  • Hide a result behind a signup form to harvest a lead.
  • Quote a price we have no intention of honouring on site.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong, we would rather hear it from you than leave it up.

Tell us what is wrong

Use our contact page and point us at the page and the figure. A rate that has moved, a rule that has changed, or a claim that reads as overblown are all worth flagging.

We fix it and re date it

If a figure is wrong we correct it and update the review date on the page, so you can see that it has been looked at rather than quietly edited.

Reviews stay as they are

We publish our Google reviews as they come, including the count and the average. We do not filter, edit or top up what customers have written about us.

These standards apply to every guide, service page and calculator on this site. Last reviewed July 2026.
