What Frankston Homes Are Working With

Mostly older houses, and the heating they came with.

A lot of Frankston was built after the war and through the 1970s and 80s: weatherboards and brick veneer on decent blocks, many of them heated by a single gas wall heater in the lounge. Those heaters keep one room warm and leave the bedrooms cold, and they do nothing in January. That is the job we quote most often here. Swap the wall heater for a reverse cycle split, then add smaller units to the bedrooms if the budget allows.

The other common call is a split system that went in 10 or 15 years ago and is now noisy, slow to cool, or tripping. Some are worth a repair. Some are not, and we will say which. Frankston South is a little different again, with bigger and hillier blocks where heating and cooling the whole house from one ducted system starts to make sense.

Which Frankston Job Is Yours?

Four situations cover most of the quotes we write for Frankston homes.

Usually yes

A Gas Wall Heater in the Lounge

A reverse cycle split usually replaces it well, and gives you cooling as a bonus. Check the VEU program first.

A Split System 12 Years or Older

Worth a diagnosis before you decide. A gas leak or failed compressor at that age usually tips it to replacement.

Ducted reverse cycle can run the whole house, if the roof space allows the ducts. Two or three splits is the alternative.

What We Install and Repair in Frankston

An older system is behind most Frankston calls. Some need replacing, some have another few summers in them.

Swapping a Gas Wall Heater for Reverse Cycle

Here is the honest version. A good reverse cycle split will heat a Frankston living room as well as the wall heater did, and usually for less to run, because it moves heat rather than burning gas to make it. It will also cool that room in summer. What it will not do on its own is warm the bedrooms down the hall, so most people pair it with one or two smaller units, or plan a ducted system if the house suits it.

Size it for the room, not the old heater's rating. Too small and it runs flat out all winter. The size calculator gives a starting point, and we confirm it on site. Before you commit, check whether the Victorian Energy Upgrades program applies to your swap. The discount depends on the product and the accredited provider, so we price it on the quote rather than promise a number here.

Before We Come Out

  • Measure the room roughly, length and width. Ceiling height helps too
  • Look outside the wall behind the heater. That is often where the outdoor unit can go
  • Know your switchboard. A photo of it saves a second visit
  • Compare running costs with the gas vs electric heating calculator

Split systems back on song
Akila and his team at Climate Control were brilliant. Made sure our split cycle systems are working so well now, our A/C dropped by 5 degrees during a hot spell and it was heaven!

Heating and Cooling Across Frankston and the Peninsula Edge

Frankston stretches from the flat streets near Seaford up into the hills of Frankston South, and the homes change with it. Closer to the centre there are units and townhouses where one well placed split system does most of the work. Further out, larger family homes can justify ducted reverse cycle, and a few still run gas ducted heating that needs a service before winter.

Something already broken? Start with repairs. Due for a clean before summer? An air conditioning service is the cheaper fix. Thinking of retiring a gas heater, read the VEU rebate page first. Our other local pages cover Cranbourne and Rowville, and the full list sits on Areas We Service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Split System Replace Our Gas Wall Heater?

Often, yes. A reverse cycle split system sized for the living area can heat the same space and cool it in summer, which a wall heater never could. We check where the outdoor unit can go, the pipe run, and whether the switchboard has room for a new circuit, then quote it. Ask us to look at the old flue too, since it usually needs capping once the heater is out.

Yes, and it does not matter who fitted the unit. Our callout is from $150, diagnostics included. You hear the price of the fix before we pick up a tool, and if the unit has reached the age where fixing it is throwing good money after bad, we say so.

It can. Salt air is harder on coils and fasteners close to the water than a few kilometres inland. We look at where the unit sits, keep it out of direct sea spray where we can, and check the manufacturer’s installation conditions for coastal sites before recommending a model. A yearly wash down of the outdoor coil helps too.

Frankston, Frankston South, Frankston North and Karingal, plus Seaford, Langwarrin, Carrum Downs, Skye and Mount Eliza. We work right across Melbourne, so ask even if your street is outside that list.

About 12 years is a fair guide, which is the figure our repair or replace calculator uses. Plenty run longer with a regular service. Past that point, a big repair is often money better put toward a newer, more efficient unit, and we will show you both prices.
