What Richmond Homes Are Working With

Three housing stories, one street.

Richmond runs them side by side. Victorian and Edwardian terraces and workers' cottages, most of them long and narrow with the living space at the back. Former factories and warehouses in Cremorne and Burnley, converted to housing with high ceilings and, often, no roof space to hide ducting in. And apartment blocks along Victoria Street and Bridge Road, where the building has a say in what goes on the outside wall.

Much of the suburb sits in a heritage overlay under the City of Yarra, which can affect where an outdoor unit is allowed to sit if it would be seen from the street. Worth checking with the council before anyone drills. We plan the condenser position around it, and we cover both sides of the job, heating and cooling.

Can Your Richmond Home Take Ducted?

First question on most Richmond quotes. And the roof answers it, not the budget.

Usually yes

Pitched Roof With Space Above the Ceiling

Ducted reverse cycle is on the table. One system, zoned, heating and cooling through ceiling vents.

See ducted reverse cycle

Sometimes

Single Storey Cottage, Shallow Roof

Sometimes possible with a slimline unit, often not. A multi head split covers the same rooms without the roof space.

Usually no

Warehouse Conversion, Concrete or Exposed Ceiling

Ducting has nowhere to hide. Wall mounted heads, or a bulkhead unit if the build allows one.

The system is the easy part. Start with what the owners corporation allows on the facade and where the condenser can sit.

What We Install and Service in Richmond

Terraces, warehouse conversions and apartments each take a different system. These are the jobs we quote on.

Ducted Heating Repairs and Service

A good share of Richmond still heats with gas ducted, and those systems get noticed in the first cold week, usually because the heater will not fire or the air coming out is barely warm. We repair and service ducted heating whoever installed it, and a callout starts from $150 including diagnostics.

If the heater is old enough that parts are getting hard to find, we will price a reverse cycle ducted heating replacement beside the repair so you can compare, and point you at the Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts before you decide. No pressure either way. We would rather service a gas ducted system that has years left in it than sell you a new one.

A Richmond Job, in the Customer's Words

From our Google profile, where we hold a 5.0 rating.

A Richmond install
We had two split systems installed in Richmond and Akila and his team were great! Communication was excellent, price was very good and the turnaround time was very reasonable. Would highly recommend!

Akila and his able team of workers did a great job in installing a ducted system at our home. I would not hesitate to recommend them.
★★★★★Michael Lipow on Google, August 2025

Both quoted word for word from our Google profile. The first names Richmond, which is rare: most reviews do not name a suburb, and we do not pretend otherwise.

Heating and Cooling Across Richmond and Cremorne

Richmond runs from single fronted cottages off Bridge Road to converted factories in Cremorne and Burnley, and newer apartment blocks along Victoria Street. Each one gets a different answer, which is why we look before we quote. We install reverse cycle ducted air conditioning, multi head split systems and gas ducted heating, and we service and repair what is already there.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Richmond Terrace Take Ducted Heating and Cooling?

Sometimes. A double storey terrace with a pitched roof and enough space above the ceiling usually can. A single storey worker’s cottage with a shallow roof, or an apartment with a concrete ceiling, usually cannot, and a multi head split system is the honest answer there. We check the roof space on the first visit and tell you either way.

Yes, whoever installed it. A callout starts from $150 including diagnostics, and you get the repair price before we start. If the unit is old enough that another repair is throwing good money after bad, we will say so and price a replacement beside it.

Richmond, Cremorne, Burnley and Abbotsford, plus Collingwood, East Melbourne and South Yarra across the river. We work right across Melbourne, so ask even if your suburb is not on that list.

Often, yes. Most apartment buildings treat the external walls and the roof as common property, so a condenser or pipework on them usually needs owners corporation approval, and some buildings set their own rules. Check your building’s rules or ask the manager first, and we are happy to put the proposed setup in writing for them.

A single split system is usually a day. A multi head system with three or four heads can run to two. Ducted reverse cycle depends on the roof space and the number of outlets, and we confirm the timing when we quote, not on the morning we arrive.
