New Estates, and the Old Township Too

Pakenham has grown fast. A lot of the homes we are asked about here are less than 15 years old, and a good number are still slabs and frames.

That changes the conversation. With an older house the question is usually what to do with the system already there. With a new Pakenham home there often is no proper system yet, so the decisions are bigger and earlier: ducted or splits, how many zones, where the outdoor unit goes so it is not under the main bedroom window. Getting those right once is cheaper than fixing them later.

The original township around Main Street still has older weatherboard and brick homes, and those get the familiar jobs: a heater service, a repair, a first split system for summer. We do plenty of both. But on most Pakenham quotes, the floor plan is the first thing we ask to see, because that is what decides the cooling and heating layout.

How Far Along Is Your Pakenham Home?

The right next step depends on how far along the house is.

Check first

Still Being Built

Ask your builder what they will allow before handover, and what the package includes. Then compare.

Usually yes

Big Open Plan Kitchen and Family Room

One large space needs real capacity. A ducted zone or a large split, sized properly, not the smallest unit that fits.

Usually yes

Bedrooms at One End of the House

A textbook case for zoning. Run the bedrooms at night without paying to cool the living areas too.

Heating and Cooling We Install Across Pakenham

Newer homes usually suit zoned ducted reverse cycle or a few well sized splits. The older township homes need something different, and we do both.

Zoning a New Pakenham Home

Zoning is the part of a ducted system people think least about, and the part they notice most once they live with it. A zone is a group of outlets the system can open or close together. With two zones you can cool the bedrooms on a hot night and leave the lounge off. Without zones, every outlet runs every time, and you pay for it.

For most single storey Pakenham homes, two zones covers it: living and sleeping. Add a third for a study or theatre room you use at different hours, or split a double storey by floor, since heat rises and the upstairs bedrooms run hotter. Capacity follows the outlets. As a rough guide, 6 to 8 outlets suits about 14 kW and 8 to 10 outlets about 16 kW, and we confirm it on site against the rooms, ceilings, insulation and glass.

Advice on the setup
Very easy to deal with during quotation and installation. Clear communications during the entire process. Akila was very knowledgeable and gave good advice on system setup. Installation by the crew looks great.

Word for word from our Google reviews. Neither mentions Pakenham. We picked them because both are about the part that matters most on a new home: choosing and setting up the system.

Pakenham, Officer and the Cardinia Growth Area

Most of Pakenham is new: estates either side of the Princes Freeway, double garages, open plan living at the back of the house. For a home like that the usual choice is ducted reverse cycle with zones, or two or three split systems if the budget is tighter. The older streets around Main Street are a smaller part of the work, and there a gas ducted heater service or replacement is more common.

Want a number before you talk to anyone? The ducted cost calculator uses the same price ranges we quote from. Something broken already? See repairs. West along the corridor our Cranbourne page covers the estates there, and Areas We Service lists everywhere else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should We Take the Builder's Air Conditioning Package?

It depends on what is in it. Some packages are a good deal, and some are the smallest system that ticks the box. Ask the builder for the brand, the model, the kW capacity, the number of zones and outlets, and what happens with warranty if someone else adds to it later. Then get a quote from us for the same home after handover and compare like with like.

Two is the most common answer: living areas on one zone, bedrooms on another, so you are not cooling the lounge at midnight. A double storey or a home with a separate theatre room or study can justify three or four. More zones add cost, so we match them to how you actually use the house.

Our published guide is around $13,000 installed for a typical 8 outlet single storey home, within a range of about $10,000 to $18,000. Larger and double storey homes sit higher. Those are indicative figures, not a quote. The ducted cost calculator gives an estimate for your outlet count.

Partly, during the day. A reverse cycle system running on a sunny afternoon can use power your panels are making, which is when summer cooling is needed most. It will still draw from the grid at night and on cloudy days. How much it saves depends on the size of the solar system and when you run the air conditioning, so we would not promise a figure.
